Kohup Sports was engaged to carry out refurbishment works for six squash courts at SPORTSG Burghley Squash Centre. The project involved the restoration and upgrading of the existing court facilities, including timber flooring, wall finishes, lighting, ventilation, and court components.

The works were carried out with the objective of revitalising the existing squash courts, improving functionality and playing conditions, and upgrading key components while making effective use of the existing infrastructure.

Scope of Works

• Sanding and varnishing of existing timber squash court floors for all six courts
• Supply and installation of new sand-filled front boards
• Repainting of existing squash court side walls
• Supply and installation of adjustable tell-tale plates
• Supply and installation of new back glass walls with locksets
• Supply and installation of new LED lighting
• Supply and installation of new wall fans
• Final inspection and quality checks

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge:

Kohup Sports was initially appointed under a main contractor for the project. However, the main contractor subsequently ceased operations and went bust, putting the project at risk of being delayed or abandoned.

Solution:

Kohup Sports continued to work closely with the project stakeholders and remained committed to the successful completion of the refurbishment works. When SPORTSG subsequently called a new tender directly with the client, Kohup Sports participated in the tender and successfully secured the opportunity to continue and salvage the project.

The direct appointment allowed the refurbishment works to proceed while retaining the existing project knowledge and experience gained during the initial stage. Kohup Sports was therefore able to continue with the required court refurbishment and deliver the works in accordance with the client’s requirements.

Outcome:

The completed refurbishment successfully revitalised all six squash courts at SPORTSG Burghley Squash Centre. The existing timber floors were restored with new sanding and varnishing, while the new front boards, back glass walls, lighting, ventilation, and wall finishes enhanced the overall functionality and appearance of the courts.

The project demonstrates Kohup Sports’ ability to manage challenging project circumstances, preserve project continuity, and deliver comprehensive squash court refurbishment works while working within existing infrastructure and client requirements.
