International Migrants Day 2021
On 18 December marks International Migrants Day. It aims to raise awareness on the struggles migrants face and celebrate their contributions. Migrants are the heart of Singapore’s workforce. They usually fill positions locals would rather not apply for such as domestic workers or laborer. For us, as a construction company, they are the backbone of the on-site operations. Many of the construction industry face constrains during the pandemic as lesser migrants are available in the workforce. The reduction is due to migrants returning home worried for their families or fear of their own safety. Another contributing factor is the closure of border and tighter restrictions with it reopening. It serves as a good reminder that while they come here for a better live for their families, they also improve our country’s economics.
